This species is widely distributed in evergreen broad-leaved forests south of the Kanto region, excluding the Ogasawara Islands. It is also known from Taiwan, China and Vietnam. It is found in the dead leaves of evergreen trees of Fagaceae, and is especially common in Quercus acuta. When alive, this species has red spots on both sides of the abdomen like B. honoris. From B. honoris it can be distinguished by the followings: antennal segment III longer, with pale club head; sense cones on antennal segment III shorter; male tubercles on abdominal tergite VI rather straight.
